I've found out, and I can say, that knowing a person by means of modern social media like flickr, blogger, also Facebook and twitter, can bring you very close to that person, although you haven't ever seen her in real life.
I noticed when I read posts of old online - friends, and what has become of them how their lives have changed.
It is like learning news about friends in real life, which often would make me sit back and think, evaluating the often long period of time (over a decade) we've spent together online and all that's been happening during this period of time.
(Much of the visions of the thinkers and inventors who paved the way to the Internet of today have indeed come true. I'm referring to Walter Isaacsons book The Inventors.)
